’Swords Fall to Point Loma

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision Thursday at Saint Louis Field.

Freshman Curtis Coburn accounted for the Silverswords' lone goal, coming with 17 seconds left to play. Coburn scored his team-best fifth goal of the season, receiving a free kick from near midfield from Tyler Braunthal and heading it into the net.

Braunthal picked up his fifth assist of the season, breaking the team's single-season record of four which was previously held by Colton Gallt in 2014.

The Sea Lions (7-5-4 overall, 6-4-1 Pacific West Conference) got a pair of first-half scores from Keyran Kelly and Chris Reingen, both assisted by Eduardo Gallardo. PLNU added its third goal in the 67th minute when Brady Johansen's crossing pass in front of the goal was headed into the net by a defender attempting to clear the ball.

Bernd Buescherhoff made six stops while the Sea Lions' Michael Lambert made three saves.

Chaminade (5-7, 5-5) took eight shots, three by Jaewon Huh, two of which on goal. Coburn and Braunthal each had one SOG.

The 'Swords returns to the pitch for their final home game Saturday against Azusa Pacific at Saint Louis Field with kickoff set for 12 p.m. Seniors Edward Cordasco III, Mitchell Fasolo and Guilherme Aires will be honored following the match.
