HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team opened the season with a 64-40 loss Wednesday at McCabe Gym.
 
Senior 
Lilia Maio had a team-high 10 points for the Silverswords (0-1) while 
Kristle Henry added eight. 
Courtney Kaupu had six points for the 'Swords while 
Taylor Babbitt came off the bench with five.
 
Maio and 
Carissa Webb each had five rebounds which led the home team.
 
The Wilcats (3-0) were led by Jasmin Edwards' 15 points.
 
The 'Swords had a forgettable first quarter, falling behind 22-5 after the first 10 minutes. But midway through the second, Babbitt ignited an 11-0 run with a 3-pointer and layup. Kaupu hit two jumpers followed by one from Maio and suddenly Chaminade was within seven at 26-19 with 5:39 left in the half. They were able to stay within striking distance, trailing 36-26 at the break.
 
But CWU took control of the second half, outscoring Chaminade 28-14 in the final 20 minutes.
 
Despite being out-rebounded 54-20, the 'Swords forced 23 Wildcast turnovers while committing 14 giveaways.
 
The Silverswords will be in action Saturday as they face Oakland City at Moanalua High School Gym. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. with live audio coverage on GoSwords.com.
