2016 TOC StandingsTURLOCK, Calif. – The Chaminade University softball team wrapped up a 16-game, 14-day road trip by dropping their final two games in the 2016 Tournament of Champions sponsored by City of Turlock at the Pedretti Sports Complex Sunday.
The Silverswords fell to Western Oregon, 12-3, in the Day 3 opener then concluded the TOC with a 13-6 loss to host Stanislaus State.
The 'Swords finished the tournament at 1-5 and are now 9-29 overall.
Game 1 vs. Western OregonThe Silverswords struck first on
Jenn Betian's RBI groundout in the second inning. The Wolves responded with a four-run third. Western Oregon continued to hammer on Chaminade pitching, scoring in each inning after.
The 'Swords added two runs in the fifth on RBI singles from
Amber Manuel and
Kayla Henmi.
Luana Moreno suffered the loss to fall to 6-13.
Rainelle Matsuoka had a base hit, extending her hitting streak to six games.
Coco Stewart and Manuel each had two hits for Chaminade.
Sammi Cadwallader got the win for WOU, improving to 4-2.
Game 2 vs. Stanislaus StateThe Silverswords grabbed a 3-0 lead on
Keani Passi's bases-loaded walk in the first and a dropped fly ball and wild pitch in the second.
The Warriors then scored five in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead but Chaminade responded in its half of the third when Passi led off the frame with a solo homer, followed by
Shannon Tagle's an inside-the-park variety that got past a diving CSUS right fielder which rolled all the way into the right field corner. Tagle's first career homer tied it at 5.
But Stanislasu State scored three in fifth to take the lead then got five more in the sixth and seventh innings. Chaminade managed to get a run on Betian's run-scoring single in the seventh but that would be all.
Kayla Higuchi took the loss in relief, falling to 0-2. Passi and
Sierra Mendiola had two base hits for the 'Swords.
Kyle Ragsdale got the win for Stanislaus State, tossing the final five innings to improve to 13-12.
