IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is probably glad to be leaving Southern California.
The Silverswords finished the SoCal portion of their road trip at 0-3 after falling Concordia, 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, Thursday at CU Arena.
Kim Spring put down a season-high 19 kills in defeat while adding six digs.
Daisia LaBrie added eight kills while hitting .583 on the night. LaBrie also had six total blocks.
Chaminade fell to 7-7 on the season and 1-4 in the Pacific West Conference.
Meanwhile, the Eagles (14-1, 5-1 PacWest) got 21 kills from Rachel Flynn and amassed 15.5 total team blocks with Amber Rose picking up nine total.
After getting blitzed in the first two sets, the 'Swords resembled more of the squad that started the season 5-0 instead of the one that had won only once in their previous six matches.
After spotting Concordia a 16-12 lead in the third set, Chaminade responded thanks in large part to LaBrie and
Emma Tecklenburg, whose blocks gave the 'Swords three consecutive points and gave them their first lead of the match. Then towards the end of the set, Spring's three kills would give Chaminade the Set 3 win to force a fourth set.
But in the fourth, CUI re-established its strong attack, jumping out to 12-4 lead to finish off the match.
Natashya Enos and
Skyler Curry combined for 34 assists for Chaminade while
Waihilo Chartrand had a team-best 10 digs.
The Silverswords head to southern Utah and will face defending PacWest champion Dixie State in St. George, Utah, on Saturday.
