HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team made their 2016 debut Tuesday but came up on the short end of the stick.
Starting four newcomers along with five sophomores, the youthful Silverswords were shut out, 2-0, by an experienced Cal State Dominguez Hills team that started eight juniors, a senior and a graduate student with four years of NCAA Division I experience.
Both scores came in the first half on a Louise Kallin goal in the 25
th minute then in the 42
nd minute on a Moa Ericksson goal as the Toros (3-0) attempted five shots in the opening 45 minutes.
CSUDH became more aggressive in the second half with 13 shots, but the 'Swords managed to survive the barrage. Sophomore
Brandee Lane, the first Chaminade starter at goalkeeper since 2011 not named
Lauren Ishii, made six of her seven saves in the final 45 minutes.
Caitlin Tatemichi took the 'Swords' only shot on goal while
Kelli Fryxell had the other shot attempt.
The Toros' Elisa Martin earned the win to improve to 3-0. Lane took the loss to fall to 0-1.
The 'Swords will return to the pitch next Tuesday when they face BYU-Hawai'i in a non-conference game in Laie.
