SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season Thursday, falling to Cal State Los Angeles, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18, at the San Francisco State University campus.
Kim Spring tied her season-high with 18 kills for the Silverswords who fell to 5-1, snapping their seven-match winning streak dating back to last season.
Kiana Drumheller and
Terezie Cernosek also tied season-bests with nine and eight kills respectively. Reigning Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week
Daisia LaBrie contributed with nine kills and three total blocks while
Cassie Rushlow also had three blocks
The Golden Eagles (2-3), who lost twice to nationally-ranked foes in Colorado last week, were led by Alma Serna who had 16 kills.
Hannah Baker dished out a team-high 24 assists while
Kasse-Ann Kiriu-Dela Cruz had nine digs.
The match was near even statistically. Both Chaminade and Cal State Los Angeles had 54 kills, 49 assists, 43 digs and six aces. But CSULA out-blocked the 'Swords 13-6 and hit them .336-.218.
The Silverswords resume the Showcase Friday when they play host San Francisco State in the morning session. The 'Swords already own a victory against the Gators, having beaten them in last week's Honolulu Invitational. They conclude the day with an evening match against Concordia (Oregon).
