HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team was not able to stave off a hot Notre Dame de Namur squad, falling 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, Monday in their penultimate match at McCabe Gym this season.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) had 19 kills for the Silverswords, who fell to 11-11 overall and 6-8 in the Pacific West Conference. The Argonauts, winners of three straight, swept their Hawai'i road swing for the first time ever and improved to 14-10 and 9-7 in the PacWest.
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) added nine kills while
Kiana Drumheller (Auburn, Wash./Auburn Riverside) contributed with a season-high eight kills. Long and Drumheller were also efficient in their attacks, hitting .368 and .318, respectively.
The Argonauts' Bianca Alvarez, the fourth-leading attacker in the nation at 5.01 kills per set entering the day, put down a match-high 24 kills as she continues her pursuit of the PacWest's all-time career kills mark of 1,705. Alvarez's performance gives her 1,680 in her career.
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) matched her season-best with 24 assists while
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had eight.
Hannah Baker (Bellville, Texas/San Jacinto College) saw action in a season-high three sets and had four assists. Curry also added nine digs.
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) had a match-best 18 digs and also had six assists.
Terezie Cernosek (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) tallied four blocks while Drumheller had three.
Statistically, Chaminade out-did NDNU, winning the battles in kills (50-47), assists (46-42) and digs (61-54). But the Argos was efficient, hitting .254 to the Silverswords' .169. Chaminade committed 27 attack errors to NDNU's 15. The Argos hit .357 (14-4-28) in the final set to Chaminade's .103 (9-6-29).
The 'Swords will play their next five matches on the road, four on the Mainland. They will open the road swing on Monday, Nov. 6 at Fresno Pacific.
