IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team opened their crucial four-match road jaunt with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-23 loss to Concordia University Irvine at CU Arena Saturday.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) paved the way for the Silverswords with 10 kills while
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) and
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) each put down seven. Belle added four total blocks while Tecklenburg and
Terezie Cernosek (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) each had three.
The Silverswords fell to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the Pacific West Conference in dropping their third consecutive match.
The Eagles (6-8, 2-5 PacWest) were led by 10 kills each by Rachel Flynn and Hailey Gaines.
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) got the nod as the starting setter and had 15 assists while
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) made a match-high 16 digs.
Tecklenburg continued to shine with her all-around performance. Aside from her 10 kills and three blocks, she also posted six digs and three of the team's five service aces. Curry had the other two aces and had six digs.
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) also had six digs in addition to nine assists.
The match completed a rare same-site tripleheader for Chaminade athletic squads. Earlier in the day, the Silverswords women's soccer team squared off against CUI at the Eagles Soccer Field next door while the Silverswords-Eagles men's soccer squads kicked off an hour before the volleyball teams' match began.
The Lady 'Swords are next in action Monday when they square off against PacWest newcomer Biola in La Mirada, Calif.
