’Swords Sweep Dominican, Finishes 4-0 on Road

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball completed their four-match jaunt through the Northern California pod with a 25-21, 28-26, 25-18 sweep of Dominican University of California Saturday at the Conlon Center.

Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) had a match-high 12 kills while Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) added 10 to help the Silverswords improve to 15-11 overall and 10-8 in the Pacific West Conference.

The win completed a four-match road sweep for the 'Swords for the first time since 2006 when they won a pair of matches at Grand Canyon and two at Notre Dame de Namur.

The victory assures the 'Swords of a third consecutive winning season, which had never happened in the over-three-decade-long history of Chaminade volleyball. They also won all 12 sets on a Mainland road trip, another program first.

Kate Even led the Penguins (9-17, 8-10 PacWest) with nine kills.

Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) added nine kills while Kiana Drumheller (Auburn, Wash./Auburn Riverside) tied her season-high with eight.

Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) tied her season-high with six blocks while Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 23 assists and seven digs.

Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) led the 'Swords with 16 digs while Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) had nine. Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had 14 assists and seven digs.

After winning the first set, Chaminade found itself down 13-11 in the second. A 6-0 run with behind two block assists and a block solo from Bell gave CUH a 17-13 lead. But DUC scrapped back and eventually served for the set, leading 24-22. Bell and Tecklenburg got back-to-back kills to tie the set at 24. Both teams had opportunities at set point, but at 26-all, Long put down back-to-back kills to give the 'Swords the 28-26 win and a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, Chaminade used a 7-1 run to break open a one-point lead into a 19-12 advantage to comfortably win the set and match.

The 'Swords out-hit the Penguins in the kill department, 49-34, while with a .240 attack percentage to Dominican's .174. Chaminade also had 48 assists to DUC's 33 and out-blocked them, 6-4. Digs were even at 52.

The Silverswords return to O'ahu for their final two matches of the season. They face intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University, which they defeated earlier this season, at St. Andrew's Priory on Friday which is HPU's final home match. The 'Swords wrap up the regular season the following night against No. 2 California Baptist at McCabe Gym on Aloha Senior Night.
