KEA'AU, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's soccer team concluded the 2017 season with a 2-1 loss to Hawai'i Hilo at the Kamehameha-Hawai'i School campus.
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) scored the Silverswords' lone goal, coming just 52 seconds into the contest, a header on a pass from Big Island native
Cierra Toledo-Muragin (Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea). It was the quickest goal in program history, besting the previous mark set by Brienna Maestas who scored at the 2:14 mark against Academy of Art in September 2010.
The Vulcans tied it in the 24
th minute on a goal by Tiera Arakawa then took the lead in the 59
th minute by Jaimie Salas.
The 'Swords were unable to get a good look at the net the rest of the way as UH Hilo hung on to win their season finale.
Chaminade mustered five shots, three on-goal with
Cailla Fabro (Waipahu, Hawai'i/Idaho State) taking two tries at the net, both on-goal.
Goalkeeper
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) made eight saves on the afternoon for the Silverswords who ended their season at 3-11-2 overall and 2-9-2 in the Pacific West Conference.
Despite the setback, junior forward
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) concluded a record-breaking year by setting program records with nine goals and 20 points with three multi-goal matches.
The Vulcans took 19 shots with Jenna Hufford making two stops. UH Hilo ended its season at 7-9-1 and 4-8-1 in the PacWest.
UH Hilo's win combined with their victory over Hawai'i Pacific in early October meant it captured the women's soccer crown in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge. The Vulcans took three points while HPU had two and CUH one.
