HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened the 2017 season with bang, scoring a 3-0 blanking of Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday at Saint Louis Field.
Bianca Gonzales (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Kapolei),
Kelli Fryxell (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Kapolei) and
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) each scored a goal for the victorious Silverswords (1-0).
Gonzales opened the scoring at the 15-minute mark on a penalty kick which was her first career goal.
At the 62

Cailla Fabro (Waipahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) fired the ball towards Toros goalkeeper Elisa Martin, who charged the ball which then went between the wickets. Fryxell then slipped past the defense and chipped it in from point-blank range, putting the 'Swords up 2-0.
Chaminade added the explanation mark in the waning seconds as
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) lobbed a ball towards Tatemichi at the right sideline. With just seconds left, the junior fired a shot from 35 yards out which went over Martin's outstretched arms at the horn, providing the final margin.
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) stopped five shots to pick up the win. The win was her fifth career victory, tying her with Lauren Ishii (2012-15) as the program's career leader.
Martin took the loss for CSUDH (0-1).
The Silverswords return to the pitch Monday as they face Hawai'i Hilo in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. at Saint Louis Field.
