HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team was looking for the program's first-ever 2-0 start but visiting Hawai'i Hilo stopped those plans in the game's first 45 minutes.
The Vulcans scored just 22 seconds into the game then added two more as they held on for a 3-1 non-conference victory Monday at Saint Louis Field.
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) accounted for the Silverswords' goal at the 55
th minute on a pass from
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Roosevelt), the junior's first career assist.
UH Hilo's Jamie Salas took advantage of a defensive breakdown and fired a shot for the game's opening score. The Vulcans (2-0) scored twice more later in the half for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Chaminade's defense managed to keep UH Hilo off the board in the second half with
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) making six of her 10 saves in the second half.
The 'Swords return to action Sunday when they face Western Oregon in their final non-conference tilt of the season at Saint Louis Field at 2 p.m.
