HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team opened Pacific West Conference action with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-15 win over Holy Names Thursday at McCabe Gym.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) put down a match-high 10 kills for the Silverswords (6-3 overall, 1-0 PacWest).
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) who played libero in her first eight matches this season, got her first collegiate start at outside hitter against the Hawks and put down eight kills with a match-high 12 digs. She also had a block solo and block assist.
Terezie Cernosek (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) and
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) each added six kills.
Holy Names (0-10, 0-1 PacWest) was led by Ashly Goor with seven kills.
Chaminade held HNU to a measly .064 hitting percentage including .015 (14 kills, 13 errors, 67 attempts) in the final two sets. The 'Swords hit .298 (41-13-94) in the match, their second-highest percentage of the season.
The Silverswords also racked up seven service aces, two each from
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Isabella Tessitore (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and
Riley Lynch (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Kalaheo). Torio, who assumed the libero duties, also had 11 digs.
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) dished out 13 assists for Chaminade while
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) added 11 and
Hannah Baker (Bellville, Texas/San Jacinto College) seven.
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) had four total blocks for Chaminade including three block assists.
The 'Swords return to the floor Friday, hosting longtime interisland rival Hawai'i Hilo. It will also be the first contest in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge in 2017-18, the third year of the competition between CUH, UH Hilo and Hawai'i Pacific University.
