HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team wrapped the Hawai'i Challenge with a 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16 win on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday at McCabe Gym.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) recorded her second double-double of the weekend with a career-high 20 kills and 14 digs. The sophomore also had four service aces for the Silverswords who improved to 2-2 in their season-opening tournament.
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) and
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) had an identical line of 13 kills and six total blocks for the 'Swords.
The Mountain Lions (0-4) were led by Taylor Hamilton's 13 kills.
A pair of Chaminade freshmen also shined Sunday with
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) dishing out a season-high 44 assists while
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) had 24 assists. Another freshman,
Alexis Hamilton (Miami, Fla./Valley Christian) had four blocks.
The Silverswords outhit UCCS, .186-.074, and tallied 11 total team blocks to the Mountain Lions' eight. They also had 53 assists and 70 digs to the opposition's totals of 36 and 62, respectively.
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) had eight digs with
Isabella Tessitore (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) adding seven digs and two aces, one of which ended the match.
The Silverswords hit the road this week when they compete in the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase in Monmouth, Ore. They open the tournament Thursday against Seattle Pacific in a rematch of this past Saturday's meeting won by the Silverswords.
