MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team Thursday opened the D2 West Volleyball Showcase with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 win over Seattle Pacific at the New P.E. Building at Western Oregon University.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) put down a match-high 11 kills while
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) and freshman
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) each had nine. Tecklenburg also had 10 digs for her third double-double this season.
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) and
Terezie Cernosek (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) each contributed with seven successful attacks for the Silverswords who improved to 3-2. They also swept the season series from the Falcons after defeating them last Saturday at the Hawai'i Challenge.
SPU (2-3) had three players with five kills each (Colleen Hannigan, Gabi Stegemoller and Gabi Oddo).
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 22 assists for the 'Swords with reigning Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week
Danielle Wiley (Peoriz, Ariz./Centennial) adding 12.
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) had 14 digs and two service aces in making her return to her home state.
Chaminade hit .365 in the match while holding SPU to a paltry .090 attack percentage.
The 'Swords used an 8-0 run in the first set to stake them to 1-0 lead. In the third, Chaminade got a pair of 6-0 spurts to help complete their first sweep for the season.
The Silverswords continue the Showcase Friday with a pair of matches. They face host Western Oregon at 12 p.m. Hawai'i Standard Time followed by Cal State San Marcos at 5 p.m. HST.
