Women’s Hoops Falls at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team dropped the third game of their four-game road swing with a 76-59 loss to Fresno Pacific Thursday at the Special Events Center.

For the third straight outing, Alicia Dugan (Renton, Wash./Peninsula College) surpassed her season high, scoring a team-high 16 points while pulling down five rebounds while Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) overcame a slow first half to finish with 15 points and 11 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.

Diamond Carter (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Olympic College) added 12 points and five boards for the Silverswords, who fell to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in the Pacific West Conference. The loss also snapped Chaminade's three-game winning streak against the Sunbirds. Sephora Yayouss (Brussels, Belgium/Peninsula College) tied her season-high with four assists.

Bree Alvarez led Fresno Pacific (9-11 overall, 7-5 PacWest) with 15 points.

Chaminade scored the game's first five points, all from Dugan. But the 'Swords couldn't take care of the ball, committing nine first-quarter turnovers including five straight to end the stanza. The giveaways enabled FPU to take a 14-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Sunbirds outscored the Silverswords 28-11 in the second to take a 42-19 lead at the break with Chaminade committing 15 giveaways.

The 'Swords managed to play with better ball-control in the third with just two turnovers which helped them outscore FPU 24-23 in the period but Chaminade still trailed 65-43 heading into the fourth.

The 'Swords shot 38.3 percent but made just one 3-pointer on the night. Despite the 15 giveaways in the first half, they committed just four in the second half for 19 in all.

The Sunbirds shot 41.4 percent but were just 4 of 26 from long distance. FPU had 44 boards to CUH's 35 and had seven blocked shots.

The Silverswords finish their road trip Saturday at Holy Names.
