FRESNO, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened their final mainland trip of the season with a 3-1 loss Wednesday to Fresno Pacific at Ramirez Field.
Breanna-Leigh Bactista (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i) scored her first goal of the season on a feed from
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City) in the 83rd minute to prevent the shutout.
The Silverswords fell to 1-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sunbirds improved to 5-9-1 and 5-3.
After a scoreless first half, Fresno Pacific struck first with a goal from Kylie Campama five minutes into the second. That would be enough for the FPU keeper Alex Benevidez who kept the 'Swords off the board until Fontes' goal. The junior forward's goal moved her into a tie for fourth among the PacWest's goal-scoring leaders this season.
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) faced 21 shots and made five saves for the 'Swords while Benevidez made one stop for the home team.
Of Chaminade's four total shots,
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) took half of them.
Aside from Lane, four other Silverswords logged a full 90 minutes of game action including
Breanna-Leigh Bactista (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Jordan Taboniar (Anahola, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama),
Tehani Smith (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) and
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel). Wong played her 18th consecutive game where she played the entire contest.
The Silverswords return to the pitch Saturday at Holy Names.
