HAYWARD, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision Saturday to Holy Names at Pioneer Field.
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) scored the Silverswords' lone goal of the day. Despite it being her first goal of the year, it gave the program's all-time leader in goals and points with 15 and 33, respectively, all tops in Chaminade women's soccer history.
The Silverswords fell to 1-10-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Hawks improved to 4-10-1 and 2-6-1. Despite dropping this year's meeting, Chaminade still owns a 4-2 series lead over Holy Names.
Tatemichi's goal came in the 82nd minute after taking a through-ball from
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City). Fontes' assist gave her a team-high 10 points this season.
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) made six saves for Chaminade. Holy Names, which scored twice in the first half, got three stops from Alyssa Lopez.
Tatemichi took a season-high four shots in the game with Fontes,
Jordan Taboniar (Anahola, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and
Cierra Toledo-Muragin (Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea) each taking one.
Four 'Sword position players saw all 90 minutes on the field including seniors
Alyssa Tanigawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) and Tatemichi who played the entire game for the first time this season and eighth time in her career. Defender
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) also played the entire match for the 19th consecutive time dating back to last season.
The Silverswords conclude the road trip Monday at Academy of Art.
