HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened the 2018 season Sunday with a 5-0 exhibition win over Westminster from Pennsylvania at Saint Louis Field.
Two of the Silverswords' goals were produced by freshmen
Asya Asato-Kahele (Honolulu/Roosevelt), who scored the first goal 19 minutes into the game, while
April Barnes (Anahola, Kaua'i/Kapa'a) tallied the team's fourth goal on an assist from
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel).
Meanwhile Chaminade's all-time leading goal scorer,
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt), not surprisingly also got into the act by scoring the game's final goal in the 83rd minute after
Cierra Toledo-Muragin (Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea) flicked a pass to the senior when the Titans' goalkeeper left the net to challenge the ball.
Cailla Fabro (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Idaho State/Waipahu) and
Breanna-Leigh Bactista (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) also found the back of the net for the 'Swords.
With the goal of the exhibition being used for evaluation, all 24 healthy Silverswords saw action on the field in the extremely humid conditions. All three of the team's goalkeepers saw the field with
Rachel Arakawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser) getting the start. The program's all-time wins leader
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) saw the most action in front of the net with 58 minutes while freshman
Alexis Chang-Takayama (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) also saw action.
The Silverswords open the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 30, against Antelope Valley at Saint Louis Field.
