LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team opened an early important road trip to the always difficult Southern California region of the Pacific West Conference on Monday.
The Silverswords, who entered evening as one of the nation's top offensive squads, hit a season-low .057 on the night, as they were swept by Biola 25-14, 25-12, 25-18, at Chase Gymnasium.
The loss dropped the 'Swords to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest, ending their best-ever start of 9-0 as well as their program-record nine-match winning streak.
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) led Chaminade with 10 kills.
Alana Handy (Burlington, Wash./Bethune Cookman Univ./Burlington-Edison) contributed with nine kills while picking up 14 digs.
The Eagles improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest with Christina DenBoer putting down a team-high 10 kills.
Chaminade entered the match leading the nation in kills per set (15.06), was ranked fifth nationally in hitting percentage (.284) and seventh in assists per set (13.61) but could not find a rhythm from the onset. They hit just .049 in the first set and -.056 in the second.
Despite near even number in kills (34-33 BU), digs (52-44 BU) and assists (32-30 CUH), the 'Swords committed numerous unforced errors including several net violations on what should have been successful attacks, suffering 26 attack errors and seven service errors. Meanwhile, the Eagles hit .315 with just five attack errors the entire match.
Chaminade, seeking its first win in SoCal since Oct. 2015, was also out-blocked 10-1.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior), the PacWest kills leader, was held to just four kills, the fewest since her freshman season.
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 15 assists for Chaminade while
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) added 10.
Nina Torio (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) had nine digs.
The Silverswords will look to get back into their winning ways Wednesday at Point Loma.
