KEA'AU, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's soccer team was looking to continue to gain positive momentum after last Saturday's scoreless draw against Hawai'i Hilo at home.
However the rematch on the Big Island went in favor of the Vulcans.
Tiera Arakawa accounted for each score in UH Hilo's 2-0 win Saturday at Paiea Stadium on the Kamehameha-Hawai'i School campus. Both goals were via set piece.
Leighana Weaver's header off Arakawa's corner kick in the 41st minute accounted for the first goal. The second goal came in the 53rd minute when Arakawa's free kick from 20 yards out after a Chaminade foul went in.
The loss dropped the 'Swords to 1-3-1 while the Vulcans improved to 3-1-2. The match was a non-conference duel and does not count in either the Pacific West Conference or the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge standings.
Chaminade net-minder
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) made two saves on the afternoon while her Hilo counterpart Bailey Cahill made one stop.
Tehani Smith (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) attempted a team-high two shots for the 'Swords while
Randi Fontes (Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Pearl City HS) and
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) each took one shot.
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Bianca Gonzales (Kapolei, Hawai'i/Kapolei) and
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) played all 90 minutes of the contest.
The Silverswords are on the mainland for a two-match road trip beginning Friday at Dominican.
