HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team opened Pacific West Conference action Friday with a convincing 25-13, 25-12, 25-18 win over Notre Dame de Namur at McCabe Gym.
In front of a boisterous crowd of 251, the Silverswords held the Argonauts to just 16 kills as a team. In contrast,
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) had 15 kills by herself which was a match-high. She added 10 digs as the Silverswords improved to 7-0, matching the 1996 squad for the best start in school history.
Alana Handy (Burlington, Wash./Bethune-Cookman Univ./Burlington-Edison) added 14 kills and six digs while
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) had seven kills and 11 digs.
Terezie Cernosek (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) collected four total blocks while
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) quarterbacked the squad with 25 assists and eight digs with
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had 15 assists.
Others getting into the kill category was
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College/Calvin Christian) with six,
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) with four. Even libero
Nina Torio (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) got her first career kill which came in the first set when her dig went over the net and landed on the Argos side of the floor.
Chaminade hit .291 and held NDNU to just .044. They dished out 47 assists to their 16 and out-dug them 57-39. The 'Swords also had a season-high nine service aces with Curry and
Tate Lutu (Honolulu/Sacred Hearts) providing three each.
NDNU (1-8, 0-1 PacWest) never threatened until the third set, drawing to within 14-12 but a 5-0 CUH run all but put the match away.
The Silverswords return to the McCabe Gym floor Sunday when they face Dominican at 3 p.m.
