Volleyball Wins Record 10th Straight Match

HONOLULU – The history-making Chaminade University women's volleyball team continues to do just that.

On Sunday at McCabe Gymnasium, the Silverswords added another notch in their record book, defeating Concordia Irvine in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18, for their program-record 10th consecutive victory.

Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) put down a match-high 14 kills while Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) added 10 to improve the Pacific West Conference-leading Silverswords to 15-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the conference.

Riley Gill paced the Eagles (9-8, 3-6 PacWest) with eight kills.

Annah Rivera (Granada Hills, Calif./Bishop Alemany) put down nine kills for the 'Swords while Jacqueline Wolfe (Laguna Hills, Calif./Irvine Valley CC/Mater Dei HS), getting her first start of the season, put down a season-high three kills as did fellow middle blocker Rae Montrose (Cedar Hills, Utah/Lone Peak), who tied her season high.

Concordia, which lost its first two matches in the 808, managed to rally from a 21-14 first set deficit via a 7-1 run and twice came to within a point of tying the set. However Tecklenburg's kill followed by an Eagles hitting error allowed the Silverswords to escape with the win.

CUI managed to carry the momentum into the second set and held a 10-8 lead before CUH went on a 7-1 run itself. Chaminade then pulled away with five straight points with Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) serving four of them although the Eagles made it interesting with four consecutive points late in the set.

Like Set 2, Concordia grabbed a two-point lead midway through the third set only to see the 'Swords break a 13-13 tie by going on a 7-0 surge with Reedy accounting for three kills while teaming with Montrose on a block. Tecklenburg had an ace while Montrose also added a successful spike during the run which helped seal the record-setting win.

Chaminade hit .235 in the match, its lowest since Sept. 21 at Hawai'i Hilo but also held Concordia to a .165 percentile. The Eagles, the PacWest's top blocking team, had 12 total team blocks to Chaminade's two but the 'Swords countered by putting down 47 kills to CUI's 29.

Natashya Enos (Kahalu'u, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Saint Francis) dished out 21 assists while Alecza Abary (Fontana, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) added 11 while Wiley had six.

The 'Swords had 50 digs with Leka Kiner-Falefa (Honolulu/UNLV/Mid-Pacific Institute) getting 16 and Enos eight. Chaminade also had seven service aces to Concordia's two.

The Silverswords return to action Thursday when they host Fresno Pacific at McCabe Gym. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
