Silverswords Sweep Past Holy Names

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team made quick work of Holy Names on Friday.

The Silverswords got another balanced offensive attack to cruise past the Hawks, 25-7, 25-13, 25-19 at Tobin Gymnasium.

Annah Rivera (Granda Hills, Calif./Bishop Alemany) continued her stellar play with a match-high 10 kills on .500 hitting as Chaminade won its seventh straight in improving to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific West Conference. The 'Swords also extended their road winning streak to a school-record 13 straight and won for the 12th consecutive time in the conference's Northern California region.

Meanwhile Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) had nine kills to take sole possession of fifth-place in the school's all-time kills list with 1,083. She was tied with her current head coach, Kahala Kabalis Hoke, and Hinano Warfield entering the night.

Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) also had nine kills while Lataisia Saulala (Morgan Hill, Calif./Oakwood) and Rae Montrose (Cedar Hills, Utah/Lone Peak) each had five, the latter establishing a season-high.

Natashya Enos (Kahalu'u, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Saint Francis) and Alecza Abary (Fontana, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) combined for 31 of the team's 40 assists while Leka Kiner-Falefa (Honolulu/UNLV/Mid-Pacific Institute) had 17 digs.

Sierra Allen led the Hawks (2-12, 1-7 PacWest) with seven kills.

With the match being designated with a "Dig Pink" theme and both teams wearing pink uniforms, it was at first difficult to tell which team was who.

However the distinction was apparent with the squad in the blue trim opening up a 7-0 run thanks to Rivera's two service aces, a Reedy spike and a kill from Tecklenburg which moved her up the program's kills list.

That was followed shortly by another 7-0 surge with Abary getting all three of her aces during the run. The set was capped by a 6-0 run as the 'Swords handily took the first set.

An 11-2 surge in the middle of the second set helped Chaminade capture the second set. Set 3 proved more competitive as Holy Names trailed just 13-12. However the 'Swords did not allow the Hawks to gain natural points from there as they pulled away to sweep the match which was their eighth consecutive win in the series.

Chaminade, which leads the PacWest in aces, got a season-high 12 with Rivera and Abary getting three each. Tecklenburg and Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) had two each while Kiner-Falefa had one as well as Enos, who has dealt an ace in 12 consecutive matches.

Chaminade hit .358 on the night and held Holy Names to .034, the lowest by a 'Swords opponent this season. They also doubled up in kills (41-20) and assists (40-19) while out-digging them 44-24. Blocks were even at two each while Chaminade surrendered just one ace.

The Silverswords conclude their road trip Saturday at Academy of Art.
