Volleyball Downed at Point Loma

SAN DIEGO – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team on Thursday dropped a 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 decision at Point Loma at Golden Gymnasium.

Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and Annah Rivera (Granada Hills, Calif./Bishop Alemany) paced the Silverswords with nine kills eachwhile Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) and Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) added eight apiece. Zanon also registered 14 digs, her third consecutive match of double-digit digs.

The loss was Chaminade's fifth straight and sixth in its last seven, dropping the team to 19-8 overall and 13-6 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Sea Lions hit .333 and committed just five attack errors throughout the match. Conversely, the 'Swords hit just .162 with 24 hitting errors. Point Loma also had 10 total team blocks on the night while Chaminade, stunningly, did not have one.

Jaime Cymbaluk and Madie Fox each had 10 kills for the Sea Lions (18-10, 14-6 PacWest).

Alecza Abary (Fontana, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) and Natashya Enos (Kahalu'u, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Saint Francis) combined for 33 of the team's 45 assists. Leka Kiner-Falefa (Honolulu/UNLV/Mid-Pacific Institute) matched Zanon with 14 digs. Lataisia Saulala (Morgan Hill, Calif./Oakwood) contributed with six kills.

Point Loma used an 8-0 run midway through the first set to break a 13-all tie to help take a 1-0 lead. Chaminade erased a 20-16 deficit late in Set 2 and eventually tied it at 24 before PLNU scored the final two points and take a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, the Sea Lions scored the final six points to break a 19-19 deadlock to earn the sweep.

The Silverswords wrap up their road trip Saturday at Biola.
