Women’s Tennis Wraps Holua Invitational

KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Monday completed the 2019 Holua Invitational with a 7-0 defeat to Holy Names at the Holua Tennis Center on the Big Island.
 
The Silverswords had their most competitive outing of the season, particularly in singles action.
 
Using new partners in doubles, Elyssa Shirai (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) was elevated to No. 1 with Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) while Salamasina Te`i (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) had a new playing partner being Cai Yan Fang (Zhongshan, China) at No. 2.
 
After the completion of doubles, Liner played her best match of the season in No. 1 singles, falling to Lada Baglaeva, 6-1, 6-4, as did Tomomi Kohno (Tokyo, Japan) against Eilis Work before falling 6-4, 6-1. Te`i fell in No. 2 singles to Jahan Bayramova, 6-2, 6-1. Fang took games in both sets against Macy Barajas while Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) continued to improve in her transition from soccer to tennis by taking a game from Anna Hoerter.
 
Chaminade is 0-4 on the year while the Hawks are 3-1. The Silverswords are next in action on Monday, March 11 against the University of Tampa at the Ala Moana Tennis Courts.
