HONOLULU – Make it three in a row for the Chaminade University women's tennis team.
The Silverswords on Monday defeated College of Idaho at the Ala Moana Tennis Courts in a 4-3 battle which featured four tiebreaking third sets in singles action.
The victory for Chaminade pushed its record to 3-5 and is the team's third consecutive win, the program's longest winning streak since opening the 2012 season with four straight.
College of Idaho's No. 1 duo of Alex Sorte and Natalie Little got the match's opening win in doubles over
Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) and
Tomomi Kohno (Tokyo, Japan) to put the 'Swords behind but their No. 3 squad of
Cai Yan Fang (Zhongshan, China) and
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) captured their match versus Taylor Little and Sydney Ewing to even doubles.
It came down to the No. 2 spot with
Salamasina Te`i (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) and
Elyssa Shirai (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) outlasting Marissa Shirley and Leiana Almaraz, 6-4, to claim the doubles win and the point.
In singles, Natalie Little and Sorte won their matches to put Chaminade down, 2-1. But Fang won her No. 4 singles match with a 12-10 tiebreaker to square the match. Then Te'i outlasted Almaraz by winning her tiebreak, 14-12, which put the Silverswords up. 3-2.
Then it was Kohno who got the 'Swords the overall match victory with yet another tiebreaker, defeating Melissa O'Berto, 10-3, in the third set to give the clinching fourth win for the Chaminade.
Angelica Almilla (Laguna, Philippines) dropped her match for the final 4-3 tally.
The Yotes fell to 0-7 on the season.
The 'Swords and Yotes meet again Wednesday at Ala Moana Tennis Courts with doubles action beginning at 12 p.m.
