HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's tennis team wrapped up their week-long run of matches on Wednesday, dropping a 5-4 decision to the College of Idaho at the Ala Moana Tennis Courts.
The loss ended their three-match winning streak as the Silverswords fell to 3-6 on the season. The Yotes improved to 1-8.
Playing under NAIA scoring rules (doubles goes to eight points and doubles wins counts for one point each), the 'Swords dropped No. 1 and 3 doubles but managed to salvage a win with their No. 2 team of
Elyssa Shirai (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) and
Cai Yan Fang (Zhongshan, China) who outlasted their opponents, Leiana Almaraz and Marissa Shirley, 8-7.
Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) opened singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Alex Sorte in the No. 1 spot to tie the match at 2. But the Yotes won the next three singles contests at Nos. 5, 3 and 6 to take a 5-2 lead to ensure a match victory.
Fang at No. 4 singles and
Salamasina Te`i (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) at No. 2 both pulled out wins by going to a third set in their respective spots.
The Silverswords will take Spring Break off and are next in action Friday, April 5, against Hawai'i Hilo at Ala Moana.
