Albertson Named Freshman of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University women's cross country runner Alena Albertson (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park) made history Tuesday by being named the Pacific West Conference Cross Country Freshmen of the Week for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1.

The freshman became the first Silversword cross country runner to earn a weekly conference award since the PacWest began its first set of expansion in 2006.

Albertson was the first Chaminade runner to cross the finish line at the University of Hawai'i Big Wave Invitational at the Kahuku Golf Course on Sept. 1, clocking a time of 20:10.00 in the 5-kilometer race.

She finished 19th overall in the race which featured three Division I programs (Hawai'i, BYU and Pacific) and was the second Division II runner to cross the line. Albertson's time also helped the 'Swords finish ahead of Hawai'i Hilo for the first time since October 2016.

Robyn Kaltenbrunn of Hawai'i Pacific was the PacWest Runner of the Week.

Both men's and women's teams return to action Sept. 21 when they host the Chaminade Invitational at Kapiolani Park. Start time is set for 7 a.m.
