SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Northern California seems like a home-away-from-home for the Chaminade University women's volleyball team.
The Silverswords got a match-high 13 kills from
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) in a 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 win Monday over Dominican University of California at the Conlon Center.
The victory was their 12th straight in the Pacific West Conference's NorCal region dating back to November 2016. It also extended their road win streak to a school-record 11.
Annah Rivera (Granada Hills, Calif./Bishop Alemany) added eight kills while
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) chipped in with six as the Silverswords improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the PacWest.
The Penguins (1-9, 1-4 PacWest) were led by Rebecca Smith's six kills.
Lataisia Saulala (Morgan Hill, Calif./Oakwood) and
Alana Handy (Burlington, Wash./Bethune-Cookman Univ./Burlington-Edison HS) combined for nine kills on the evening.
Senior setter
Natashya Enos (Kahalu'u, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Saint Francis) had 19 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Her service ace in the third set marked her 10th consecutive match of dealing at least one ace. It also gave Enos 100 in her career, becoming just the fifth 'Sword in program history to reach the century mark in career aces.
Leka Kiner-Falefa (Honolulu/UNLV/Mid-Pacific Institute) had a team-best 11 digs on the night. Kiner-Falefa and
Alecza Abary (Fontana, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) each had two of the team's 10 aces, giving the Silverswords a conference-best 90 aces.
Dominican nearly rallied from a 21-16 first-set deficit, scoring four straight to come within a single point. Kills from Handy, Tecklenburg and Reedy squashed the comeback, giving Chaminade a 1-0 lead.
Set 2 opened to more of what Silversword fans expect with a 6-1 run. Another 6-1 surge midway through helped the 'Swords secure a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, Chaminade broke away from a 5-all deadlock with Rivera putting down an attack followed by an ace. Tecklenburg got into the act with a pair of kills and teamed with
Rae Montrose (Cedar Hills, Utah/Lone Peak) for a block while Reedy added two kills. It was part of a 10-1 Chaminade surge which all but sealed another road win for the royal blue and white.
Saulala had three blocks for the 'Swords who held DUC to a .070 hitting percentage, 20 team kills and 19 team assists. In contrast, Chaminade hit .276 with 42 kills and 40 assists. The 'Swords also had 43 digs to Dominican's 33.
The Silverswords will head to the Central Valley on Wednesday to face Fresno Pacific.
