HONOLULU – Playing at home for the first time this season on Monday, the Chaminade University women's tennis team made their debut at their new home court at the Donald A. Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center.
The Silverswords' first opponent in the historic facility was Division I Stetson University, which came away with the 7-0 win.
The Hatters won all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point although the 'Swords' top duo,
Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) and
Kayleen Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui), pushed Stetson's top team of Danel Ashirova and Lucie Renault in a 6-3 loss.
In singles, Liner dropped her No. 1 match to Ashirova, 6-2, 6-0, while
Cai Yan Fang (Zhongshan, China/McKinley) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision in No. 3 singles to Brooke Milner. Meanwhile freshman
Emily Ramirez Miranda (Honolulu/Kaiser) played in her first collegiate match in a straight set loss to Laia Pasini.
Chaminade fell to 0-4 on the year while Stetson is 7-4.
The Silverswords resume action on Sunday, March 8 against Dominican at the Diamond Head Tennis Center with a 3 p.m. start time.
