’Swords Set Men’s Soccer Records on Senior Day

HONOLULU – Although history will record Point Loma defeating the Chaminade University men's soccer team on Monday, several departing Silverswords made the most of their final game at the Saint Louis Field pitch.

Colin Roemer (Cologne, Germany/Barton CC/Wirtschaftsgymnsaium Westerburg) set two career records while Lyric De Leon (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Grand Canyon University/Kapolei HS) tied a longevity mark as the Sea Lions earned a 6-1 win over 'Swords.

Roemer set the program's all-time points and assists marks with one boot in the 77th minute. The senior pushed a corner kick to the upper-right part of the box to fellow senior Takahiro Kosins (Tokyo, Japan/Colorado Mesa University/Kalani, Hawai'i, HS) who in turn, fired a pass towards the left post where Kekoa Kuloloia (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) headed in his first career goal.

Roemer was credited with an assist, allowing him to get his 23rd career point and seventh career assist, both new program records. Roemer was previously tied with Noah Mokulehua in the points category and with Reece Hambly and Tyler Braunthal in assists. He is also still one goal shy of the program record of nine, co-held by Mokulehua and Sam Galloway.

Kosins also got an assist in his final home game, the third of his Chaminade career.

Meanwhile, De Leon made career start No. 54, tying him with Curtis Coburn, Micah Mokulehua, Dayton Sato and Jose Carranza for most starts. He also raised his career minutes total to 4,871 which ranks second all-time. He needs just 53 minutes to pass Coburn as the all-time minutes played leader among position players and is also on pace to become the first 'Sword in school history to play 5,000 career minutes.

Another Silversword senior, Jamin Fonseca (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) attempted one shot, giving him 53 in his career, which ranks seventh all-time.

Nick Eusebio scored two goals for Point Loma, which improved to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the PacWest. PLNU goalkeepers Seth Ketterer and Ryan Piece combined for four saves.

Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made six saves for the 'Swords (2-7, 0-5 PacWest).

Along with Roemer, De Leon, Kosins and Fonseca, Kelton Cheney (State College, Pa./Penn State University/State College HS) and Lono Kaialau (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Damien) were also honored following the contest.

Chaminade also played in front of fans for the first time in nearly two years. CUH seniors were allowed to bring two guests to sit in the stands. In all, 55 were on hand to witness the final home game of the season.

The Silverswords will play their final five games of 2021 on the road, four in the Northern California pod starting Saturday at Dominican University of California.
