HAYWARD, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team snapped out of a month-long skid Monday with a 1-0 win against Holy Names at Pioneer Field on the campus of Cal State East Bay.
Jamin Fonseca (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) unknotted a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 77th minute to help the Silverswords break a seven-match losing streak.
Chaminade also ended a 10-match winless streak in Pacific West Conference matches, improving to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Fonseca's goal, his second of the year, was assisted by
Brison Kim (Honolulu/Kalani), his third of the season which also gave him the team lead in points with nine.
After taking the lead, the 'Swords survived five Holy Names shots with
Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) making three saves in the final 24 minutes.
The Hawks (4-8-1, 2-5 PacWest) got off 20 shots, 15 in the second half alone. Chaminade managed three shots, two on-goal.
Ryan McCord (Wilsonville, Ore./Wilsonville), making his first career start, took one shot in his 87 minutes on the pitch while
Colin Roemer (Cologne, Germany/Barton CC/Wirtschaftgymnasium Westerburg HS) added other.
Yasue picked up the win and tallied his second career clean sheet, making seven stops. Hawks goalkeeper Rasmus Nielsen took the loss.
The Silverswords continue their road trip Thursday at Academy of Art.
