Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Downs Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO – Thursday will go down as one of the more remarkable games in Chaminade University women's soccer history.

Down to just two players available off the bench, the Silverswords, somehow, someway, managed to overcome the odds and fight through late-game fatigue to score a 2-1 win over the Urban Knights at Paul Goode Field.

Sharon Cain (Honolulu/Kamehameha-Kapalama) delivered the game-winner in the 74th minute, heading in a ball from the near the left post.

Cain's goal, the first since her freshman season in 2018 and second career game-winner, broke a 1-1 deadlock after the Urban Knight tied it in the 57th minute.

The win evened Chaminade's record to 6-6 as they continued to add on to their record win total for the season. They also improved to 4-4 in the Pacific West Conference, giving them 12 points on the season.

Academy of Art fell to 2-10-2 and 1-8 in the PacWest.

Laina Jumawan (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle), who last played Sept. 25 against Hawai'i Pacific, had initially given the 'Swords the lead in the 12th minute, breaking through the defense just past midfield and lobbing a shot over ART U goalkeeper Dru Keizer for her first career goal.

For the next 45 minutes, 14 seconds, Chaminade kept the Urban Knights out of the net until Reyna Valencia's tying goal.

But that set the stage for Cain whose goal was set up off a free kick by Savannah Breeze Miranda (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Aiea) 10 yards inside the midfield line.

Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City), who became the program's all-time wins leader on Monday, notched her sixth win of the season and 10th in her career. Jordyn Wight, who started the second half in goal for ART U took the loss.

Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) fired off four shots of Chaminade's 17 shots. Jumawan added three more. Academy of Art was held to six.

The Silverswords will wrap their NorCal trip Saturday at Fresno Pacific.
