HILO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's and women's cross country team made their only off-island trip of the year Friday, competing in the Hawai'i Hilo Invitational at the Banyan Golf Course.
Olivia Mariucci (Templeton, Calif./Templeton) and
Owen Daugherty (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) both finished third overall in their respective 5-kilometer races.
Mariucci posted a time of 22 minutes, 31.5 seconds for her highest career overall finish. The senior missed out of a second-place finish by less than four seconds. Hawai'i Pacific's Robyn Kaltenbrunn took medalist honors with a 21:30.3 time.
Riley Hallman (Renner, S.D./Tri-Valley) completed the course in 26:19.7.
In the men's race, Daugherty clocked a time of 18:33.2. Teammates
Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) timed at 22:17.0 while
Conor McMahon (Pacifica, Calif./Archbishop Rioardan) was just under a second behind (22:18.8). HPU's Jona Bodirsky ran away from the field with a 16:20.7, winning by nearly two minutes.
The Silverswords will finish the season on Saturday, Feb. 27 in the PacWest Hawai'i Invitational at the former HPU-Hawai'i Loa campus.
