HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team returned to action Monday after an eight-day layoff.
Their opponent was a very familiar one in Hawai'i Pacific University. Meeting for the fifth time this season, the Sharks were operating on all cylinders at The Shark Tank with a 74-37 win.
Jordyn Zader (Mukwonago, Wis./Pius XI) led the Silverswords with 12 points, while
Michaella Dean (Irvine, Calif./Orange Lutheran), who is normally a facilitator as the team's leader in assists, took eight shots and scored nine points, both season highs. She also sank a 3-pointer for the first time in her last 34 games.
Zader made all eight of her free throw attempts, increasing her percentage at 82.2 (60-of-73) for the season, putting her at No. 10 in the PacWest in the category.
Arianna Blowe (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) contributed with seven points and seven boards.
Emily Laham (Potwin, Kan./Maize) dished out a team-best two assists. Both Laham and
Emma Morris (Tuscon, Ariz./Tanque Verde) had four points each.
Sasha Phillip (Punalu'u, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy) hit a free throw, making her return to the floor after missing the previous four games because of an injury.
Olivia West paced nationally-ranked HPU (12-0, 11-0 Pacific West Conference) with 17 points while Amy Baum once again came close to a triple-double (16 points, nine rebounds, eight assists).
After scoring just 10 points in the first half, the ball finally went into the bucket for the 'Swords (0-9 PacWest) in the second half with 27 points.
The Silverswords will face the Sharks a final time on Wednesday at The Shark Tank. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
