Men’s Soccer Falls at Point Loma

SAN DIEGO – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Thursday dropped a 4-1 decision to Point Loma at the PLNU Soccer Field.

Ryan Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif./Cal State Monterey Bay/San Marcos HS) accounted for the Silverswords' goal as the Silverswords fell to 2-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Sea Lions improved to 7-5-3 and 4-2-1, keeping their hopes for the PacWest title alive.

Point Loma got on the board first in the 16th minute and held a 1-0 halftime lead. But in the second half, Diklic Milan had two goals just two minutes apart starting in the 56th minute, both by headers off corner kicks.

Chaminade countered 11 minutes later when Ian Inigo (Houston/Bridgeland) captured a loose ball in their attacking half of the field. Inigo flicked it forward to Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) down the right sideline then made a centering pass to Anderson, who in turn, one-timed a left-footed shot past Sea Lions goalkeeper Seth Ketterer to erase the shutout.

It was Anderson's second goal of the season, joining Caba as the team's other multi-goal scorer of the season. Inigo and Caba each received assists.

But Point Loma added an insurance goal in the 70th minute for the game's final margin.

Anderson, Inigo and Caba combined for all six of Chaminade's shots in the match, taking two each. Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made seven saves on the afternoon while Ketterer had two.

The Silverswords conclude their Southern California road trip Saturday at Concordia University Irvine. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.
