Men’s Soccer Falls in Road Finale at Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team concluded their Southern California road trip with a 6-2 loss to Concordia University Irvine at Eagles Soccer Field.

The Silverswords fell to 2-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the Pacific West Conference while the Golden Eagles improved to 6-8-2 and 5-2-1 in the PacWest.

CUI had a trio of goals in the first half then added three more in the opening eight minutes of the second.

The 'Swords nearly got on the board in the 39th minute when a Ryan Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif./Cal State Monterey Bay/San Marcos HS) blast from the top of the box drew the crossbar.

However the Silverswords finally got a break when a foul inside the Eagles' box resulted in Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) scoring on a penalty kick in the 62nd minutes, his team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Chaminade benefitted from another Concordia foul, this time occurring just beyond the 18-yard box in the 80th minute. Isaac O'Neill (Fernley, Nev./Grand Canyon/Fernley HS) took the free kick and ripped a 19-yard laser inside the right post for his first career goal.

After being held to just two first-half shots, the 'Swords found a bit more offensive flow with nine shots in the final 45 minutes. Kevin Yulkowski (Miami/Cutler Bay) took three of the team's 11 attempts on the evening while Ian Inigo (Houston/Bridgeland) was their other multi-shot taker with two.

Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made three saves for Chaminade while Gabriel Schroeder (Reno, Nev./Galena) played the final six minutes in goal. Andre Flores and Kyle Miller shared goalkeeping duties for CUI with Flores getting the win.

The Silverswords will conclude the season next Saturday when they host in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Following the game, the team's seniors will be honored.
