WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team faced intrastate foe the University of Hawai'i Hilo in a Hawai'i Invitational match Saturday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Courts.
The Silverswords showed fierce competitive spirit before falling to the Vulcans, 7-0.
Chaminade (0-2) opened the match with defeats in Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, giving the doubles point to UH Hilo (2-2). In the No. 1 spot,
Kayleen Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Salamasina Robertson (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) were tied at 3 against Julia Barden and Nanami Okamoto when doubles action ended.
In No. 1 singles, Lau came close to finishing the first set before falling to Carolina Alfonsin, 7-5. Meanwhile after losing her first set, 6-0, Robertson came back in the second before falling short to Sandra Dafincescu, 6-4, in No. 2 singles.
The Hawai'i Invitational continues Sunday when the Silverswords face Biola at CORP Tennis Courts with a 3 p.m. start.
