WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's soccer team returned to the islands Thursday, facing intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University.
The Sharks got the better of the Silverswords in a 4-0 decision at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
HPU scored the match's first goal in the 20th minute but the 'Swords defense held firm the remainder of the first half. However, the Sharks scored three times in the final 45 minutes including on a penalty kick.
Chaminade (0-7-2, 0-3-1 Pacific West Conference) took four shotson the evening, one each by
Ryan Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif./Cal State Monterey Bay/San Marcos HS),
Oliver Horgan (Reno, Nev./Cal Poly Humboldt/Galena HS),
Zach McClellan (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) and Kaden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS). Anderson had Chaminade's lone shot on-goal.
HPU (4-7-2, 2-3-0) got 12 shots in all, eight on-goal.
Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made two saves for the 'Swords in taking the loss while Connor Margo made one save in earning the win.
The good news for the Silverswords is their final six matches will all be at home at the Saint Louis Field pitch. Up first is Point Loma on Monday with kickoff set for 10 a.m.
