HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Sunday wrapped up the 2023 season with a 2-0 defeat to the University of Hawai'i Hilo at Saint Louis Field.
The Silverswords were hoping to celebrate the careers of seniors
Ryan Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif./Cal State Monterey Bay/San Marcos HS) and
Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) by getting their first win of the season.
However, in windy conditions that saw winds gusting up to 35 mph at various points, the Vulcans got both scores in the first 33 minutes with the winds at their backs.
Yasue, who is in his sixth year with the program, made a career-high 16 saves in his final game in a Chaminade uniform, the second highest in team history and the most since Darren Smith's record 22 stops in September 2007. His saves total is also tied for the fifth highest in Pacific West Conference single-game history.
Anderson made his 11th start of the season and recorded two shots, one on-goal.
UH Hilo (10-6, 7-3 PacWest) peppered Yasue with 26 totals shots, 13 in each half.
Kainoa Carpenter (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) took a team-high four tries at the net for the Silverswords, two on-goal. Chaminade totaled 10 shots on the afternoon.
Christian Souza earned the win for the Vulcans.
The Silverswords conclude the season at 0-12-3 on the year and 0-8-2 in the PacWest.
