Women’s Tennis Falls to Holy Names

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Friday fell to Holy Names University, 6-1, amid extremely blustery conditions at Keehi Lagoon Park.
 
With wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, the youthful Silverswords (0-2) were competitive against their fellow Pacific West Conference mates.
 
Although the Hawks (1-1) took two of the doubles matches to secure the doubles point, Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) managed to salvage their first collegiate win by defeating Ana Rios and Linda Dimitroff, 6-2, in No. 1 doubles.
 
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) won her No. 6 singles match after her opponent retired. Lau and Carvalho managed take multiple games in their respective matches while Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) took one game in her second set.
 
The Silverswords face another mainland PacWest foe, Stanislaus State which is a women's tennis conference affiliate, on Saturday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park. Doubles action is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
