WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Saturday concluded their season-opening set of matches with a 7-0 loss to Stanislaus State at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
The Silverswords fell to 0-3 on the season while the Warriors (1-0) were making their spring championship season debut.
Stanislaus State won two doubles matches to earn the point in doubles although Chaminade's top tandem of
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) were trailing 4-2 when the Warriors took the second doubles match.
In singles action,
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) managed to take three total games in the No. 4 spot off Emma Yu. The two-sport athlete also teamed with
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) to take a game in No. 3 doubles.
The series of matches over the weekend featured all three Division II Hawai'i programs facing three visiting Pacific West Conference teams including Holy Names, Stanislaus State and Azusa Pacific, the latter which did not face the 'Swords.
The Silverswords are next scheduled to be in action on Wednesday, March 22 when they face their first Division I opponent in CSUN (previously known as Cal State Northridge). The match is scheduled to be held at the Donald Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center with a 12 p.m. start time.
