ATHERTON, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Friday opened up the first of their four mainland matches, dropping a 7-0 decision to William Jessup University at the Menlo College Tennis Courts.
The Warriors (2-7) took two of the three doubles matches to win the point, although
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) and
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) got the win in No. 2 doubles, their second win of the season.
WJU took all six singles matches but
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) had the most competitive singles match, falling in her No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-2 to Danielle Akabane.
The match was the Silverswords' first regular season appearance on the mainland since 2014.
Chaminade returns to the Atherton Saturday when they face Menlo College. Doubles matches begin at 8 a.m. Hawai'i time (11 a.m. local).
