FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
Ajack Malual (Rome, Italy/Tambosi ETI) hit .684 with a match-high 13 kills with no errors on 19 swing and three blocks while
Greta Corti (Varese, Italy/Univ. of San Francisco/Alessandro Manzoni Liceo HS) followed with 11 kills and nine digs as the Chaminade University women's volleyball team swept 14th-ranked Alaska Anchorage 25-16, 25-19, 25-23, in the Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge at the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium.
The win resulted in a series sweep over the Seawolves for the Silverswords, who improved to 3-0.
Alaska Anchorage fell to 0-3. Bethany Tuchardt led the Seawolves with 11 kills.
Much like they did in the Friday matchup, the Silverswords opened up a 9-3 lead in the first set with the help of five Seawolves errors. Anchorage would get no closer than three as the 'Swords convincingly won the first.
Tied at 5 in the second set, Chaminade got three kills and a block from Corti during an 8-2 run to help them again pull away to take a two-set advantage.
But the nationally-ranked Seawolves didn't go away quietly in their must-win set, rallying from four points down to take a 21-20 lead. But Corti and
Heavenly Campbell (Waialua, O'ahu, Hawai'i/College of Southern Idaho/Damien HS) put down consecutive spikes then Malual had a pair of kills including the finisher at aloha ball to complete their first sweep of the Seawolves since the non-championship spring 2021 season.
Leilani Ama (Spokane, Wash./Mt. Spokane) dished out 34 assists.
Hula Crisostomo (Honolulu/Univ. of Texas El Paso/Moanalua HS) came away with nine digs and a pair of service aces.
The 'Swords hit a whopping .391 in the match and held UAA to a .191 clip. Forty-four of Chaminade's 45 kills were assisted while the team came away with 34 digs and nine total team blocks.
Chaminade will face host Alaska in the final match of the Challenge later Saturday.
