HONOLULU – During the Chaminde University's two exhibition games against Multnomah and Lincoln, the Silverswords demonstrated defensive dominance, out-shooting their opponents by a combined 57-to-0.
In Saturday's regular season opener against Northwest Nazarene, there was much of the same. Although the teams ended up finishing in a scoreless draw, Chaminade's ability to keep their opponents from getting prime looks held fast.
The 'Swords (0-0-1) limited the Nighthawks to just four total shots in the game but had just three themselves, although the low shot total was indicative of the style of play with both teams jockeying for possessions between the attacking quarters.
Madelynne Knowd (Ramona, Calif./Ramona),
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) and
Tehani Smith (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) each had looks at the net for Chaminade.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made three saves while her NNU counterpart, Bailey Blacett, had one stop.
The Silverswords will hit the road next week with a pair of matches in Gunnison, Colorado, starting Friday at Western Colorado.
