HILO, Hawai'i – Four days after the Chaminade University women's soccer team faced Stanislaus State at the University of Hawai'i Hilo Soccer Field, the Silverswords returned to the Hilo pitch against host UH Hilo on Thursday.
The Silverswords, who began a five-match road trip, held their own against the eighth-ranked team in the nation but ultimately dropped a 3-0 decision against their Pacific West Conference interstate rival, a non-conference meeting which was also their last of the season.
Chaminade fell to 2-2-2 on the season while the Vulcans improved to 4-0-1.
After 38 scoreless minutes, UH Hilo broke the ice when Alyssa Padron curled a shot just inside the left post. The Vulcans added an insurance goal two minutes into the start of the second half when Padron struck again, hitting a shot from five yards out to give them a 2-0 lead.
The 'Swords were held to five total shots, three on-goal, with
Clara Slate-Liu (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Ecolè Alpha Secondary) taking a team-high two.
Delaney Buntin (Vail, Ariz./Pima CC/Cienega HS),
Savannah Breeze Miranda (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Aiea) and
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) each had one.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made six saves for Chaminade while her Vulcans' counterpart, Phoebe Barnes, made three.
The Silverswords will open PacWest action Monday at Fresno Pacific, the first of a three-match road trip to Northern California.
