SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University women's soccer team got two goals in both halves to defeat Academy of Art, 4-0, Thursday at Paul Goode Field.
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) converted two penalty kicks while
Kylie Ifuku (Honolulu/Kaiser) added her first career goal and assist as the Silverswords won for the second time to guarantee themselves a winning mainland road trip.
Chaminade, at the midway point of six straight matches away from their home pitch of Saint Louis Field, improved to 4-2-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Pacific West Conference. It was also their fourth straight win in the series, the longest win streak against any opponent in program history.
Academy of Art, shut out for the seventh straight match, fell to 1-7 and 0-2 in the conference.
Mo'okini, who connected on a penalty kick in Monday's win at Fresno Pacific, put the 'Swords on the board first in the 24th minute with a PK after the Urban Knights committed a foul inside the box.
Chaminade's second goal was a matter of being at the right place at the right time. As the seconds began to wind down towards the end of the half,
Lily Leano (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist) squeezed a centering pass between two defenders at the top of the box where Ifuku one-timed a shot with just a second left for her first career goal while Leaño got her first career assist.
In the 64th minute, ART U was called for a handball inside the box where Mo'okini powered in her second penalty kick of the day – her third of the year – and a 3-0 'Swords' lead.
Chaminade then capped the afternoon when
Delaney Buntin (Vail, Ariz./Pima CC/Cienega HS) tapped in a shot from the left side of the post on a cross from Ifuku, Buntin's third goal of the season, tying her with Mo'okini for the team lead.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) did not need to make a save to earn the win, the school-record 22nd of her career. She also tallied her 19th career clean sheet.
Kayla Hampton made two saves in taking the loss to fall to 1-4.
The 'Swords attempted 17 shots to ART U's two. Ifuku and
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) each took four kicks at the net for Chaminade. The 'Swords also had a five-to-none advantage in corner kicks.
The Silverswords will wrap up their NorCal trip Saturday at Dominican University of California.
