IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Saturday made their first foray outside of O'ahu on Saturday, dropping a 5-1 decision to Concordia University Irvine at Golden Eagles Soccer Field.
Ian Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./Cuyamaca College/Meter Dei HS) scored the Silverswords' first goal, assisted by
Cameron Rozsa (San Marcos, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Mission Hills HS), which was also the first score of the game, coming in the sixth minute. It was his Garcia's second goal of the season, tying him with
Kala'i Duncan (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and
Owen Malone (Carlsbad, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Carlsbad HS) for the team lead.
But the Golden Eagles didn't take long to respond, getting the tying score seven minutes later by Miguel Arroyo and got the go-ahead score in the 24th minute from Domenyk Jara. CUI added a third goal to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
The 'Swords' defense held firm in the second half but the Golden Eagles scored twice in the final 13 minutes for the final margin.
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) made five saves for Chaminade while his CUI counterpart Sebastian Marin made one.
The 'Swords fell to 1-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the PacWest while CUI is 4-5 and 2-3 in the PacWest.
The Silverswords' second game of the road trip is Monday at conference newcomer Vanguard University.
