IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team on Monday earned the second win of their southern California road trip with a 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 win over Concordia University Irvine at CU Arena.
Mahala Ka'apuni (Hilo, Hawai'i/Alaska Anchorage/Hilo HS) put down a career-high 21 kills while
Anna Stucchi (Roncello, Italy/Santa Clara University/I.I.S. Ezio Vanoni HS) added 13 more to help the Silverswords extend their winning streak to a record-tying 13th straight. Chaminade, which remained steady at No. 7 in the AVCA Top 25 Poll released earlier in the day, also improved to 23-4 overall and 16-0 in the Pacific West Conference, moving a half-game ahead of Point Loma (21-0, 15-0 PacWest). They also won their 22nd straight conference match dating back to last season.
Letizia Cammillucci (Padova, Italy/San Jose State/Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'asosta HS) added 10 kills for the 'Swords.
Lizanyela Lopez (Lima, Peru/Trinity Valley CC/Saco Oliveros HS) pushed back five blocks while
Grace Talpash (Temecula, Calif./University of Oklahoma/Great Oak HS) had 42 assists and nine digs.
Nanna Inoue (Kula, Maui, Hawai'i/Tyler JC/King Kekaulike HS) came up with 26 digs and a team-high three service aces.
The Golden Eagles got a team-high 15 kills as CUI fell to 15-11 and 10-8 in the PacWest.
After dropping the first set, the 'Swords were in a Set 2 battle but got an 8-2 run to take command of the set and tie the match at 1.
Chaminade used a 10-2 run to turn a 6-all tie to a 16-8 edge midway through the second set to take the match lead.
The 'Swords went on an early run in the fourth set as Ka'apuni put down two kills along with two aces from Inoue as part of a 6-0 surge. CUI closed to within 18-17 but Cammillucchi accounted for four points with three kills and a block during another 6-0 run to set up aloha ball and the eventual match win.
Chaminade had 57 kills, 51 assists, 64 digs, nine aces and eight total team blocks. CUI put down 46 attacks, 43 of which were assisted, 58 digs and six blocks.
The Silverswords' SoCal trip continues Wednesday at Azusa Pacific. Match time is at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time.
